The Secret Life of Bee's
Book Review
The Secret Life of Bee's novel by: Sue Monk Kidd is a book about a southern girls life being tossed and turned around when she lost her mother when she was 4 years old. It must have been hard for her to live all of these years without a mother. She lives with her father, T:Ray, and her African American maid, Rosaleen. Rosaleen insults three of the deepest racists in town. Lily decides to let them both free. Lily and Rosaleen escape to Tiburon, South Carolina, a place were her mothers secret past is kept. Since they had no place to go or stay three black beekeepers take them in. Lily is exposed to their world of honey, beekeeping, and the black Madonna.
There is August Boughtright, the oldest out of the three sisters, she is the owner of the Black Madonna honey business. Then there is June Boughtright, she doesn't really like Lily, she cares a lot about her sisters and doesn't want anybody to come between them or mess up their family anymore than it already is. Last but not least there is the youngest sister, she is kind of special, May Boughtright, May is very caring, happy, and emotional, she feels pain anytime something bad happens to anyone.
This is a book about a motherless child who learns the real meaning about family and strange places we find love. This would be a great book for girls who want to read about Lily's situation or if they are going through the same thing that she is. This book was very inspiring to me because I learned the true meaning of what family really means and is.
