1. My response for the ending of the book was great. The part that I thought it was great was when Hideyo found K0 and Yoko and they really were happy to see him and I would be glad to see my brother after all of that time. To me the ending of the book was satisfying because Hideyo came back. The conflicts that were unresolved were when their mom died and they couldn't change that but something that was resolved was when their honorable brother Hideyo came back. I think that Yoko ended the story there because maybe she thought that she didn't want to share the rest of the information with the readers and she thought that it was hard for her to write that other information about her mother father or anyone and maybe she wants to make a sequel never know.
2. I think that some of their hardships in their family were they waited all of that time for Hideyo to come back and they were actually going in the wrong direction because Hideyo was going to Seoul and they were waiting in Seoul for Hideyo but maybe they thought that hideyo died because the japanesse lost the war and they though that they didn't have to wait for anyone anymore so they went to their homeland in Japan.
3. The character that I most respected was Yoko because she had alot of hard things to deal with in her family and had a lot of responsibilities to do. Some things that she had to do were go to a new school in Japan and overcome that fact that their mother died and her brother was missing. I think that is a lot of responsibilities for a young girl like Yoko. She also had a lot of courage and bravery of stepping up and do those things.
4. Some facts that I have learned throughout this novel were the the Japanese lost the war against Korea. Some questions that i have are " Did Yoko talk to Hideyo about what happened to get this info about him in this novel? and " How and Why she thought of writing this story about her life and the Japanese war.
5. Some lessons that I can learn from this novel is to take chances and don't hold on to what you have and if something bad happens then you can learn from that and move on with your life. That is kind if what Yoko and Ko did even though their mom died and their father came back after 6 years they still continued with their lives and moved on from there.
